China Today: Tech Giants Want to Build a MetaverseChina Today: Tech Giants Want to Build a Metaverse
PRC.TODAY (China Today) - As "metaverse" becomes the buzzword of 2021, Chinese tech giants are also looking to tap into what could be the next stage of the internet's evolution.
Since Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook's official rebranding as Meta last October, Chinese tech companies have also been buzzing with the idea of creating a vast digital world integrating the internet, virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence.
Last month, tech giant Baidu held its annual developer conference, Baidu Create 2021, in Xirang, or Land of Hope, the company's answer to the metaverse.
To enter the digital realm, users must create their own avatars. Users are then free to roam and interact with other avatars, from attending conferences to taking virtual tours.
Baidu said the annual developer conference is the first large-scale armenia telegram number database event in China held entirely in the metaverse.
This month, the Communication University of China (CUC) opened a virtual campus in Xiran, making it the first Chinese academic institution to enter the industry.
CUC's Digital Arts Department recreated the campus using 3D modeling, street maps, and other digital tools. Students and visitors can explore the virtual campus using VR headsets, mobile phones, and computers.

Earlier this month, Huawei and Beijing Shougang Park jointly launched a metaverse project. Users can enter the new world by scanning a QR code in the park with their smartphones to enjoy a performance by a group of robots and a virtual light show. Users can also immerse themselves in the gameplay by participating in AR group war games.
