Disk Snapshot – What it is and how it works

A data center usually offers a series of features to protect its customers' data. Disk snapshots are one of them, used as a way to keep a safe copy of files on a server. However, that's not exactly how it works.

What is a snapshot?
As the name suggests, a snapshot is a “photo” of the current state of your server. It generates an image of the current status of your disk, saving file metadata and configurations made. Therefore, in case of an emergency, such as data corruption, it is possible to use a snapshot for a quick restoration to the point in time.

Difference between snapshot and backup
