The employment situation is generally stable, and the surveyed urban unemployment rate has declined. The national average urban survey unemployment rate for the whole year was 5.1%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the previous year. The total number of migrant workers throughout the year was 299.73 million, an increase of 2.2 million or 0.7% over the previous year.
Residents' income continues to increase, with rural residents' income growing faster than that of urban residents. The per capita disposable income of residents nationwide was 41,314 yuan, a nominal increase of 5.3% over the previous year, and a real increase of 5.1% after deducting price factors.
The total population has decreased and the urbanization rate continues to increase. At the end of the year, the national population (including the population of 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and active military personnel, excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents and foreigners female number user data living in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government) was 1,408.28 million, a decrease of 1.39 million from the end of the previous year. The number of births throughout the year was 9.54 million, with a birth rate of 6.77‰; the number of deaths was 10.93 million, with a death rate of 7.76‰; and the natural population growth rate was -0.99‰.
At the press conference, a reporter asked how China's overall economic performance was in the face of multiple challenges. Has the main goals and tasks for the year been relatively well achieved?
Kang Yi, director of the National Bureau of Statistics, responded that 2024 is a critical year for achieving the goals and tasks of the "14th Five-Year Plan". Faced with the complex and severe situation of increasing external pressure and increasing internal difficulties, the economy has been operating generally stably and making progress, high-quality development has been solidly advanced, major goals and tasks have been successfully achieved, and Chinese-style modernization has taken a new and solid step. Looking back on this year, we can use five "very difficult" evaluations.
