FREMONT, Calif., and CLEARWATER, Fla. – Oct. 3, 2023 – Results from TD SYNNEX’s (NYSE: SNX) second annual Direction of Technology (2023) study reflect the explosion of interest in artificial intelligence (AI) across the technology business partner ecosystem and show how many technology distributors are growing despite rapidly changing demands and market uncertainty. The global survey of more than 550 technology distributors reveals that despite numerous headwinds across the industry, technology partners are significantly preparing for a changing reality by rebalancing business priorities and offerings.

The study, which is based on the results of a survey conducted in collaboration with Canalys, can be summarized in five key conclusions, some of the most notable data being:


In just one year, the number of partners offering AI/ML solutions increased by 625%. In fact, several high-growth technologies such as cloud, AI and IoT, cybersecurity, and hyperscale infrastructure dominate partner offerings.
Security was the top-selling technology, followed closely by networking, servers, storage, and hybrid cloud.

Changing skills needs reveal gaps in the talent pipeline. More than a third of respondents (38%) say managed services was the top business competency they need, while the same percentage say security is the top technology competency they need.
After security, networking and data analytics were the most in-demand technology skills for partners worldwide, and after managed services, professional services and business planning were the most in-demand business skills.
Skills needs vary by region, illustrating how each region is evolving to meet the needs of its markets. However, the high demand for managed services across all four regions is a common denominator.

73% of IT spending will be done through partners by 2023, according to an estimate by Canalys, underscoring that the technology channel is an essential go-to-market strategy for capturing value.
