Which comes first: the business or the team? Without the business, the team does not exist. But without the team, the business is not viable. Your service must be equally distributed to both. This means that sometimes the team must come before the short-term interests of the company, or vice versa. Too often, project managers believe that they serve only the bottom line. What they don’t realize is that profit often comes from long-term investments in supporting players.

If you want your teammates to show up early and leave late, show up early and leave later than they do. If you want your teammates to have perfect timesheets, make sure your schedule is model first.

There can't be two codes of conduct - one for you and one for your team. And remember, this extra effort is for your team, not for yourself.
