We've all had it: the dreaded "promotions" tab in our inbox, that black hole of messages from retailers that's the virtual equivalent of walking down a European street being shouted at by counterfeit designer bag salesmen. It's no fun, and you're constantly checking your pocket to make sure no one's made off with your wallet.

Optimize email campaigns

As a marketer, you don't want to think that your emails are part of the problem - just annoying background noise that doesn't add value to your customers' lives. But chances are, your emails don't add value. Chances are, your emails are just as annoying and ignored as everyone else's.

1. Send emails with content that helps your customers use your products.
The idea here is to show your customers how your products can fit into their lives and how they can improve them. There are many possibilities here:

After a customer makes a purchase, you can send them an email with tips on how to get the most out of your products. These tips can be included in your transactional emails if you send email receipts or are an e-commerce company . For example, if you sell vitamins, you can send an infographic on how to best use your vitamins - such as the best time to take them, what foods to take with them, and what results the vitamins will provide. Just create snazzy visuals with a few helpful facts about your product.

You can also send emails that show how your products solve your customers' pain points (which should be included in your buyer persona ). Make sure your subject line is directly related to the pain point to ensure a good open rate.

An example for a women's clothing company might have a subject line that says, "Tired of holes in your jeans from normal wear?" And then the body of the email might be about the company's miracle jeans and how they don't develop holes from normal wear, such as thigh rubbing or knee rips .

You should also send out emails filled with ideas that show how your customers can use your products together to create a product that is greater than the sum of its parts. A clothing company should send outfit ideas, a furniture retailer should send layout ideas, etc. Use your products to illustrate these ideas, but don’t push them with hard suggestions. The content of the email should explain why you decided to create the outfit you did – for example, why certain textures can be mixed and matched. You can always include a “Get This Outfit” button at the bottom of this email.
